CAA Blood Drive

Disclaimer: this is not free food.

Giving blood is important and as mooches of the Drexel catering system, and other organizations, and also as humans, I think it is important to give blood to people who need it. Our bodies can make more anyway. And, technically they give you juice and a snack and a STICKER after you donate. DO IT.

iPledge Campaign Kickoff to Be Held at Drexel

Women Against Abuse (WAA), Philadelphia’s leading domestic violence agency, will kick off the second annual iPledge Campaign with a press conference at the Mario the Magnificent statue (33rd and Market Streets) on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 12 p.m. Mayor Michael Nutter, State Senator LeAnna Washington, State Representative Brendan Boyle, President of Verizon Wireless Philadelphia/Tri-State Region Mario Turco, 107.9 FM’s on-air personality MoShay LaRen and Drexel One in Four President Lonnie Snyder will participate in the press conference.

The six-week iPledge campaign, sponsored by Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine Program and Drexel, encourages the public to pledge to take a stand against and stop domestic violence. For more information and to sign the pledge, visit http://www.iPledgeWAA.org.

Entertainment at the press conference will include performances by Laura Warshauer and students from Overbrook High School. Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine Program will collect cell phones to benefit victims of domestic violence. Drexel was selected to host the iPledge kickoff festivities because of its ongoing initiatives to combat domestic violence through groups such as One in Four, VIEW and FUSE.

In recognition of the iPledge Campaign, Philadelphia City Council proclaimed October Domestic Violence Awareness Month and October 8 has been designated as Purple Day, the color of the anti-domestic violence movement. The Cira Centre, PECO building, Drexel’s 32nd Street Park (32nd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets) and the fountain at Korman Quad (between Market and Chestnut Streets and 32nd and 33rd Streets) will be lit in purple. Purple banners and bus shelter ads will line Broad and Market Streets, and city employees will wear purple. Purple refreshments will be served at the kick-off press conference courtesy of Sodexo, Center City Bakery Flying Monkey and Jim’s Steaks.
