Western Women Abroad

Violence Information and Education for Women (VIEW) and International Area Studies will host a panel discussion about the experience of traveling abroad for education, work or leisure, on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. in room 311 of Matheson Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Drexel students and faculty will share their experiences traveling abroad. This is an opportunity for students interested in working or studying abroad to get questions answered and learn what’s needed before one goes traveling.

The workshop is free and open to Drexel students. Refreshments will be served.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: Learning the Aleph Bet The Judaic Studies Program will present “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: Learning the Aleph Bet” a lecture by Adina Shmidman, PhD, educational psychologist, on Monday, May 18, 2009, 9:30 a.m. in room 302, W.W. Hagerty Library (33rd and Market Streets).
Shmidman will discuss the development of early reading and the use of mnemonics in teaching letter-sound relations. Shmidman will then exlpore a study comparing two methods of teaching the Hebrew alphabet and demonstrate the value of embedded mnemonics, particularly when learning a second language alphabet. This event is free and open to the public.

The Fifth Annual Drexel Women in Business May Tea

Drexel Women in Business will host its Fifth Annual May Tea today, May 15, 2009, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the third-floor living room at The Acorn Club (1519 Locust Street).

The tea will feature keynote speaker Mary Lemonis, vice president of human resources for emerging markets at Campbell Soup Company. Tea, scones, finger sandwiches and desserts will be served.

From the DDD. Now I don’t normally recommend “staying” for most things, but I would highly recommend actually going to this thing, not because some people are dumb, but because everyone has a different take on things.


Off-Campus Housing 101 Workshop

The Office of Commuter, Graduate and Transfer Student Programs and Services will host a workshop, “Off-Campus Housing 101,” today, May 14, 2009, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in room 2019, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets).

Students who will be moving off-campus next year are encouraged to attend. Topics to be covered include conducting a housing search, tenant rights and responsibilities, tips for working with a property manager, and more.
